Hine-pokohu was known as the Sky Mist Woman. She had a sister Mine-Wai, The rain (specifically the rain when it falls in foggy weather) who dwelt with her in the sky.
Sky Mist woman fell in love with a mortal man and at Night, she decended to earth to vist her lover in secrecy. At dawn, her sister would call out to warn them that daylight was coming and they must return home least anyone suspect. Sky Mist Woman and her sister would return to the sky untill usk fell and they had dominion over the earth.
Sky Mist Woman warned her lover never to tell anyone of their trysts, but he did. Betrayed and Weeping tears of sorrow she never returned to him.
He searched and searched the valleys and mountains for her, untill he died.
After his death he became the rainbow that accompanies the mist, joined for enternity.
Thank you, Your comments are inspiring! And so many of them. It is wonderful to know that you like the stock images so much! Makes all the effort worth it!

"And the raven sat upon my door... Never more, Nevermore"
The impression I get, is that she has just discovered her lover's betrayal and gives him a despairing, almost anguished look, as she prepares to leave.
I love the woman and the background exudes the misty dampness of the forest. I can almost smell the leaves and the moss.

You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.
Thank you so much! I am so glad that you enjoyed it. I fell in love with the legend and had to create something for it. It is a great joy to work with mythology and historical/spiritual stories.

This is beautiful. Great blending and a wonderfully chilly and dark atmosphere. Stunning work I also enjoyed the little story in the artist comments.
